Dewey Schott Coaching
Grief coaching for men.
Supervision for social justice coaches.
Based in Sebastopol, CA. Working virtually everywhere.
I'm a coach who works at the edges of things — where loss meets identity, where justice work meets burnout, where men who don't have a language for grief are quietly drowning in it.
I'm a queer man, a bassist, an end-of-life specialist, and someone who spent sixteen years in nonprofit arts and culture before I found my way to this work. I hold an ICF Professional Certified Coach credential and a grief and loss certification through Claire Bidwell Smith's program. I've been doing this long enough to know that the most important thing isn't the framework — it's whether the person across from you feels like they can tell the truth.
That's what I'm trying to build in every room I hold.
Grief Coaching for Men
Most men were never taught to grieve. They were taught to move on and stay strong, . And then something happens — a death, a divorce, a loss they can't name — and none of those instructions work anymore. This is a space to put it down. All of it.
Coach Development
Three ways to develop your coaching: group supervision for social justice coaches, group mentor coaching for ICF hours, and individual mentor coaching for focused one-on-one feedback.
Coaching Quirky Queers
If you're looking for a coach who doesn't need the context explained — who gets the complexity of queer identity, queer community, and what it means to build a life that actually fits — I'm here.
What I'm Made Of
I believe grief is sacred, not a problem to solve. I believe social justice work requires tending to the people doing it, not just the outcomes they're working toward. I believe queer people deserve coaching spaces that don't ask them to translate themselves.
I also believe in ritual, in music, in the kind of community where people actually show up for each other. These things aren't separate from my coaching — they're the whole reason I do it.
